Acupuncture & Acupressure for Pain Management in Labour: Research

We know labour pain can be intense, and is interlinked with fear, tension and pain.

We know that women are, understandably, looking to upskill to meet moments of pain in labour.

A Cochrane Review conducted here in Australia, published in 2020 examined the evidence of Acupuncture and Acupressure for pain management in labour. The review included 28 trials reporting on 3960 births.

The study, linked here, concluded:

  • Acupuncture may increase satisfaction in pain management and reduce the use of pharmacological analgesia

  • Acupressure may reduce pain intensity

  • Acupressure probably reduces the need for caesarean section in comparison to sham acupuncture

These findings are incredible, and certainly reflect my own clinical experience.

This is the reason I’ll always teach you Acupressure Techniques to use in labour.

Why I believe Acupuncture in the lead up to birth to be so beneficial.

You can find out more about what we do in treatments leading up to birth in this Journal post here.

I welcome you into the clinic for a treatment.
